St. Mary Church, Urbana, OH, is seeking a Director of Music to begin on, or before, December 1, 2019.  This position serves as the principal musician, organist, cantor, and choir director for two small, tradition-minded parishes.

St. Mary’s organ has three manuals, a Solo division with a Festival Trumpet, an antiphonal division in the rear of the church, and a state-of-the-art memory system, and transposer.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
-Works in collaboration with the Pastor and parish staff.
-Selects liturgical music throughout the year (hymns, ordinaries, psalms, choral anthems, postludes/preludes) in
consultation with the Pastor.
-Provides organ accompaniment and cantors for all liturgical and para liturgical ceremonies including, but not
limited to: parish weekend liturgies, holy days, and penance services.
-Provides organ accompaniment and cantors for weddings and funerals (additional compensation provided).
-Direct and coordinate two choirs, entering a re-building stage, including regular rehearsals
(choir season is Sept. through June).
-Invites and develops the formation of potential music ministry volunteers.
-Provides for updating and education of the parish, as required by the Pastor.
-Researches, reviews, and orders new music.
-Assembles and maintains music library.
-Procures copyright and prepares music for reprint as needed.
-Arranges for any necessary organ maintenance, as needed.
-Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor.

Other Position Responsibilities:
-Regular attendance and punctuality.
-Maintain organ, conducting, and vocal skills.
-Engage instrumentalists for special occasions.
-Maintain computer skills.
-Attend staff meetings.

Qualifications:
-College degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
-Minimum 3 years parish music experience or similar is required.
-Proficiency in organ, vocal, and directing skills.
-Knowledge of all Catholic liturgical music documents and Catholic liturgy.
-Knowledge and appreciation of the Church’s liturgical tradition.
-The ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.
-Proven administrative skills including interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, management and supervision,
visioning and planning, budget preparation.
-Strong oral and written communication skills.
-Ability to pass mandatory background check.
-Ability to complete and maintain mandatory VIRTUS training.

This is a full-time, salaried (non-exempt) position of 20 hours per week, and includes full benefits.  Additional compensation is provided for weddings and funerals.
