"Sleepers awake!"

Topics:

Every year, on Holy Saturday morning, the second reading of the Liturgy of the Hours (from an ancient homily, according to the notes), Jesus is portrayed as taking the hand of Adam and proclaiming "Awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will give you light."

"I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."

Topics:

Yet another detail occurred to me as I listened to the Passion from St. John's Gospel. In John 19:29 we read "There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth." This can be read in the context of Luke 22:17-18 - "Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and said, 'Take this and share it among yourselves; for I tell you [that] from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.'”

"Sibling rivalry" indeed!
